from the digital media wire:
DailyCandy, the Comcast-owned (NASD: CMCSA) local daily email newsletter that offers culture and shopping picks in 12 cities, will cease daily publication in seven cities, Valleywag reported.
The seven affected cities -- Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington D.C. and Miami -- will now publish local editions twice a week, and on the remaining days will distribute DailyCandy's "Everywhere" edition.
The move will result in layoffs for six full-time editorial staffers, but the company plans to add an equal amount of staff in New York.
The company also publishes daily in New York, London, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco. Comcast acquired DailyCandy last August for $125 million.
Now, I'm not sure why Comcast paid $125 million for something and then took it away from more than half the cities that enjoy it, but I'm hoping to fill the void. More than once I have mentioned something that Daily Candy then covered soon after so let's try this. Hopefully I can bring you some fun tidbits that you wouldn't normally hear about or turn you on to a new restaurant or event happening in Seattle. I may do some Portland highlights too. Why not? It's not like I'm reporting to Comcast.
So, welcome Circadian Sweets readers! Great to have you aboard!
